1st Annual Muskegon Steelhead Derby

I am creating the first annual Muskegon River Steelhead Derby. The tournament this year will be a introduction to a event that will hopefully go on for many years to come.

This years tournament will be held on April 3rd 2010. The meeting place will be at River St Park in Newaygo (map). The tournament will begin by meeting at this location at 6:30am.

There will be a cutoff date of March 31st 2010 to register for the event.

Tournament Rules:

  1. Open to any fisherman willing to abide by the Tournament Rules, Michigan DNR regulations and payment of entry fees.  
  2. Fishing can only be done in the Muskegon River from River Street Bridge North towards the damn.
    1. No Culling fish. You can catch and release but there will be no hold fish to see if you catch a bigger fish later in the day. (There will be spotters present)
  3. The winners will be determined by a point system. (1pt for each inch or fish and 1pt for each pound of fish) With a 3 fish maximum. (The contestant accumulating the highest number of points over all of the hours of the Tournament shall be the winner; the contestant with the second highest accumulation of points shall be second; and so on.)
    1. 1st Place - 50% prize pool
    2. 2nd Place - 30% prize pool
    3. 3rd Place - 10% prize pool
    4. Lunker - 5% prize pool - Largest Fish in Pounds
    5. All sponsor money and 5% of prize pool will be donated to www.benefit4kids.org

  4. No boats allowed for registered fisherman.
  5. A valid michigan fishing license and id must be presented for tournament registration card.
  6. Weigh in and check points:
    1. There will be two (2) mandatory weigh ins.
      1. 11am - 12:30pm First weigh in (River Street Park)
      2. 6pm-7pm Final weigh in and Prizes Awarded (River Street Park)

Prizes:

The entry fee for the tournament will be $25 per person registered. The prizes will be as follows:

  1. 1st Place - 50% prize pool
  2. 2nd Place - 30% prize pool
  3. 3rd Place - 10% prize pool
  4. Lunker - 5% Largest Fishing in Pounds
  5. 5% Donation to www.benefit4kids.org

All participants further understand and agree to hold harmless the aforementioned groups and individuals from damages incurred as a result of participation in the Tournament in whatever form or manner said liabilities or damages might be incurred.
By participating each participant agrees to hold the tournament entrants, and all sponsors, their officers, directors, agents, or employees, harmless and blameless from any and all liability of any kind of injuries, loss of life, disfigurement, dismemberment, pain and suffering by the registrants and their crews during the entire time the tournament is being held. Registrants agree to be held strictly liable for any liability arising from this tournament.
