Please note that all the fishing hot spots I have included here have been fishing by me and verified good fishing spots. Though depending on the day and fishing conditions may not be as good as I say. But I hope you can enjoy them as much as I do. Just remember to save me a spot if you see me there.

  • Rabbit River & Damn - Allegan (map)
    • The rabbit river damn is a excellent choice to fish from the beginning of spring to the end of fall and sometimes even into the start of winter. You can easily tell if there is fishing sitting in the current by watching the fish latter. It is not uncommon to see hundreds of steelhead attempting to jump the wall. Here is some more information on this river. (info)
  • Pickerel Lake/Kimball/Emerald - Newaygo (map)
    • All these lakes combined offers some great fishing year round. Pickerel lake is extremely deep for its size with some depths reaching 100+ feet. There is a good choice of fish to catch out of these lakes including but not limited too (Pike, Bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, perch, walleye, carp)
  • Grand Haven Pier - Grand Haven (map)
    • The pier has great fishing year round, well maybe almost all year round. The winters can be brutal and ice up very easily so take precautions. You can catch almost every species of fresh water fish on the piers in michigan. One of my favorite are the brown trout in the spring. My trick is to put some waders on and wade out to a safe distance and fly fish with 2-3 inches white streamers with a black front bead....It is simply a blast. Its usually also easy to tell if the fish are in....just look out on the pier, if there are fisherman than there are fish to be caught. The best spot to fish trout off this pier is about a quarter to half way from the beginning of the pier. Though whitefish and pan fish are mostly located in deeper water past the halfway point out to end. Great bait for whitefish are single cured salmon eggs. And for trout it can differ between live minnows to floating spawn bags. You sit so close to your neighbor you can just see what they are using.
  • Stearns Bayou - Grand Haven (map)
    • The bayou is a great backwater of the Grand River in Michigan. The river leads to the Grand Haven Pier. Almost every fish that resides in michigan can be found in these parts. There is great pike fishing all year round in the grand river and its bayous. I have personally fished this water in the winter. It usually keeps very good ice and it is easy to tell where the fish are being caught...just look for the fisherman. Great spot to put some tip ups for Pike and then fish for Bluegill and perch. Though this area produces some smaller fish, you can certainly caught a good day when the jumbo perch are in and then take a 10lb pike on a tip up. Don't forget to stop by and get some bait.
